BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A corrections officer shot and wounded an inmate during a riot at a California prison.
The Bakersfield Californian reports that six inmates, including one who was shot in the buttocks, were injured during Sunday’s riot at the California Correctional Institution Tehachapi. Lt. Brian Parriott, spokesman for CCI, said it’s unclear what prompted the riot.
During the riot, a CO fired warning shots — one of which struck an inmate in the buttocks.
Inmates made multiple weapons and attempted to conceal them in drains as the riot subsided. Parriot said about 65 inmates were involved in the riot.
All of the injured inmates were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition, Parriot said. An investigation into the disturbance is underway.
