WICHITA, Kan. — One inmate was injured after several fights at a Kansas prison Tuesday evening, officials said.
There were multiple fights on Tuesday evening at Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility, said Samir Arif, a spokesman for the Kansas Department of Corrections. Some windows were broken, and one inmate sustained minor injuries.
No corrections officers were injured, Arif said. The facility has been secured and authorities are investigating.
The Larned prison “houses the most severely and persistently mentally ill adult male inmates” within the KDOC, the department’s website states. The facility also houses “a significant number of inmates with borderline personality disorders or a conduct disorder which makes them an unacceptable risk for housing in another facility.”
The facility includes 150 beds in a maximum-security unit, 288 work detail beds in a minimum-security unit and 115 beds for offenders at Larned State Hospital.
