SEATTLE — A former King County corrections officer who choked an inmate into unconsciousness and stomped on his head pleaded guilty Thursday morning to fourth-degree assault.

Richard Harr, 30, was given a 12-month suspended sentence and ordered to perform 240 hours of community service. Herr resigned last Thursday, the same day the misdemeanor charge was filed after a four-month investigation.

Harr, who had been a corrections officer since 2006, assaulted the inmate on Jan. 1 following an disturbance at the downtown Seattle jail. According to charging paperwork, the incident occurred after corrections officers took away two hours of TV privileges from inmates on the 10th floor after finding food hidden in the day room, the papers say. Upset by the general punishment, inmates began berating the officers.
