OTTOWA – A scandal that erupted following the release of footage showing officers kneeing and kicking prisoners while in detention has lead to an Ottawa Police Services Board investigation.

CBC News reports that Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson will get a first hand update by the board on what actions have been taken by the police force since videos showing the prisoner abuse prompted public outrage.

The Police Services Board is expected to recommend the Ontario Provincial Police handle the investigation of two additional incidents uncovered during a review of surveillance footage, according to the CBC article.

Stacy Bonds, who was one of the inmates shown being beaten in the surveillance video, was found to be unlawfully arrested and treated inhumanely in 2008 while in police custody. CBC reports that she filed a lawsuit against police last Friday.

Ottawa police have suggested adding another level of supervision and additional video surveillance as a means to address the prisoner abuse.
