LOS ANGELES — An 18-year-old inmate died in a Los Angeles jail two days after a sheriff’s deputy punched him in the face, authorities said Friday.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said George Rosales was found unresponsive in his cell Thursday. He had been involved in an altercation with a deputy Tuesday. Michael Gennaco, who heads the Office of Independent Review oversight agency, said that Rosales was punched when he made a break for an elevator.
Rosales had seemed fine during a check 12 minutes before he was found unresponsive, officials said.
