KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A Kamloops Regional Correctional Center inmate who spat not only in the face of his arresting officer but also later in the face of a correctional officer is being released after serving only four months.

The Vancouver Sun reports that Sebastian Downes, 18, was arrested in May for a probation violation, along with theft of alcohol and $275 worth of equipment from a store.

After spitting both the arresting officer’s face and in a correctional officer’s eye, provincial court Judge Chris Cleaveley told Downes that he needed to respect authority figures.

“You can’t go around spitting in people’s faces,” Cleaveley said.

Downes apologized for his actions, saying that life behind bars has been rough.

He pleaded guilty to five charges Monday and was sentenced to time served.
