RACINE, Wis. — An inmate is facing new charges after he beat another inmate with a broomstick, allegedly as part of a bet for a cookie.
The Journal Times reports that Tarence A. Banks was charged as a repeat offender with battery by a prisoner and disorderly conduct after he allegedly beat another inmate in the head with a broom on Monday.
The injured inmate told a Racine County Sheriff’s deputy that he and Banks had been discussing and disagreeing over sports scores. A cookie bet was on the line, and Banks was asking for the inmate’s cookie. Banks allegedly became upset with the inmate, and beat him over the head with a broom.
According to Banks, the inmate had been picking on him all day because he only has one arm. He said he feared he was going to be beaten and needed to defend himself, because he lacked an arm.
The sheriff’s report didn’t state which sporting event the two were having a disagreement about.
Banks is currently serving time for exposing himself to a nurse inside the Racine County Jail; he also faces charges for an alleged home invasion near his own backyard.
