WASHINGTON — An inmate is suing for allegedly being beaten and pepper-sprayed by a corrections officer for removing hair braids and fake eyelashes too slowly.
According to the Washington City Paper, inmate Tameka Fleming was being processed through the D.C. jail before being moved to the Correctional Treatment Facility. The lawsuit alleges that Fleming did not remove her braids or eyelashes fast enough for Corrections Officer Jannease Johnson.
Johnson began punching and kicking Fleming, before spraying her with pepper spray, according to the Washington City Paper. Fleming claims that she suffered breathing problems, bruises, and emotional distress during the attack.
She is now suing the District and the Corrections Corporation of America, which runs the Correctional Treatment Center, for $3 million.
No comment was given by the Corrections Corporation of America nor the Office of the Attorney General, according to the Wasington City Paper.
