CRENSHAW COUNTY, Ala. — The search is on in Crenshaw County for a man with a long criminal history who was able to prop open a door and squeeze through fencing in a bold escape from the county jail.

Paul Holley, 46, broke out of the Crenshaw County Jail in Luverne at 2:15 a.m. Friday. Officials say he was awaiting trial on charges of burglary, theft of property and receiving stolen property.

Holley wedged the door to the recreation yard open with a piece of cardboard. When all of the other inmates went to sleep, Holley went out into the enclosed rec area and climbed up the fence, peeling it back to make a hole at the top so he could climb through it.
