HENNEPIN COUNTY, Calif. — Two Hennepin County jail inmates face assault charges after one of the men bit off the eyelid of another inmate during a fight last week.

According to charges filed this week, London Lamar Kellogg, 18, and Robert Raru Batchelor, 30, were each charged with felony first- and third-degree assault following the June 17 incident.

According to charges, the victim told authorities that he began arguing with Kellogg and Batchelor, who are suspected gang members, during a game of cards in the day room when he returned to his cell, followed by the two. They refused to leave, so the victim hit Batchelor, prompting Batchelor to jump on him, pull him close and try to bite his face. The victim hit Batchelor again when Batchelor bit his left eyelid off. When the victim threw up his hands and said “I’m done,” Batchelor continued to hit him several times in the face. Kellogg blocked the door during the attack.

A nurse was called to the victim’s cell to find him bleeding from his mouth and eye and missing a significant portion of his eyelid. That portion was found on the floor outside his cell.

Both men remain in the Hennepin County jail, where they were initially booked for weapons, robbery and sexual assault charges.
