CLAREMORE, Okla. — A new Life Scan machine will replace the old paper and ink technology in use at the Rogers County, Oklahoma jail, KJRH NBC 2 reports.

Benefits of the new machine include access to the ICE and the Department of Homeland Security databases, which will notify the jail in minutes if the inmate has a hold with one of those agencies.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton told NBC 2 the old system is time consuming and ineffective. The Lifescan machine is “more efficient, more accurate and it takes a micro second of the time that it would take – as far as the old ways of matching photos, and calling other agencies and seeing if any of the numbers are aliases match.”

We can probably expect more news of small and medium-sized departments upgrading to digital matching systems as the national political discussion continues to focus on immigration.
