EL PASO -- Detention officers at the Reeves County Detention Center in Pecos on Saturday were working to quell a riot, the second violent outbreak at the jail in the past few months.
Reeves County sheriff’s officials said they weren’t certain what prompted the riot to break out at the detention center, which houses as many as 2,080 inmates. Officials said an ambulance was at the jail.
“The riot is still going on,” sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Istorga said Saturday night. “We’re uncertain of any injuries.”
In December, inmates took two hostages and set a recreational building on fire in a riot that lasted several hours.
