LONDON — Police and prison guards were dealing with a serious disturbance Monday at a young offenders’ institution near London.
The Prison Service said “an incident of concerted indiscipline” broke out around 11:15 a.m. at the Aylesbury youth prison, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) northwest of London.
Thames Valley Police said officers were outside the prison, backing up specially trained guards inside.
The force said there were no reports of injuries to prisoners, staff or police.
Aylesbury holds up to 435 young men between 17 and 21 on the site of a Victorian jail. Its inmates are the most serious young offenders in Britain, and many are serving long sentences for crimes including murder.
