Unsecured door led to Pa. prison break

The Times-Tribune

HONESDALE, Pa. — A maintenance worker failed to secure a door to a recreation room at Wayne County Correctional Facility, allowing a pair of inmates to escape Thursday, the Prison Board said today.

A corrections officer also failed to check the door before allowing inmates into the recreation room, the board announced. The board did not name either employee, and declined to reveal what if any disciplinary action will be taken.

Richard A. Edelmann, 23, of Honesdale, and 17-year-old Anthony Navarra were free for about an hour. They were arrested about three miles from the prison.
