Inmate who won’t leave jail attempts to steal sheriff’s truck

PHOENIX, Ariz. – An inmate who didn’t want to leave the Maricopa County jail found a creative way to get arrested again.

ABC News reports that David Spurlock, 29, was released the same day he was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on a court order.

Deputies had to escort Spurlock out of the jail because he didn’t want to leave. Spurlock then access the cab of a truck in the parking lot of the jail and disengaged the air brakes, but was unable to start the vehicle.

Spurlock said he was trying to steal the truck in order to sell it.

“Maybe he liked the food so much, he thought he would take a truckload of my vegetarian meals with him,” Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.

Spurlock was booked back into the jail on a burglary charge.
