POPE COUNTY, Ark. — An inmate already facing a felony forgery charge is now facing escape charges after he fell through the ceiling of the Pope County Detention Center.

5 News Online reports that Brad Hill, 35, went into the booking area of the jail without permission and locked the door.

Authorities heard Hill in the bathroom and knocked on the door; they reportedly heard Hill bang the toilet seat and told him to “hurry up.”

A little later, a man in the jail lobby advised personnel that someone had fallen through the ceiling and took off running outside.

Hill was identified as the escapee and was later recaptured at the National Home Center parking lot a half mile away.

It was later confirmed that Hill had climbed through the ceiling tiles and walked on top of the cinder block wall to the outside of the jail lobby, where he fell through.

He caused approximately $1,130.29 worth of damage to the facility.
