LEBANON, Ohio — A 10-year-old boy has written to a local judge, asking to deny his mother the possibility of early release from prison.

Bradyn was four when his mother, Shannon Smith, stabbed his father, Robert Takach, in 2009, according to WCPO. The two were arguing, according to police, and Smith stabbed Takach with a knife.

Bradyn was a witness to the event, telling police that “his mommy stabbed his daddy and put the knife in the sink,” according to The Washington Post.

Smith was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but was in court this week seeking early release. Bradyn, now 10, wrote a letter to the judge asking that his mother be kept behind bars.

“Dear Judge Peeler: I feel that my mom should stay in prison because I see her stab my dad clean through the heart with my sister in his arms,” he wrote. “Life for me would be 10 times better if mom didn’t kill my dad because that took a big amount of happiness out of mine and my sister’s life.”

Despite the letter, the judge set Smith’s release for Dec. 2016. Smith will also spend a year on house arrest and three years on community control.

Smith’s attorney said that she hoped “to mend her relationships and reunite with her children.”
