TRENTON, N.J. — Two New Jersey men have been indicted in the 2012 fatal shooting of an off-duty New Jersey corrections officer.

The Mercer County Proseuctor’s Office announced Friday that an indictment returned earlier this week charges 27-year-old Maurice Skillman, and 26-year-old Hykeem Tucker, both of Trenton, with murder, assault and weapons charges in the fatal shooting of Carl Batie.

Prosecutors say Batie, a 26-year-old Willingboro resident who served in Mercer County, was an innocent bystander when he was shot and killed.

Police say Batie was among a crowd of people standing on a second-story rear deck at the Baldassari Regency banquet hall in Trenton when shots rang out on Nov. 11, 2012.

Skillman and Tucker are each being held on $1 million bail. It’s not clear if they have retained attorneys.
