JACKSON, Mich. — People are most safe with 20-year-old Jabari Johnson in prison, Jackson County Circuit Judge Susan Beebe said Wednesday morning.

“Unfortunately, even while you are there, people are at risk,” Beebe told Johnson.

She sentenced Johnson on Wednesday, April 17, to 40 to 60 years in prison for assault with intent to commit murder.

Johnson, while an inmate at the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, attacked Officer Andrew Keplinger with a modified razor blade. He had the knife to Keplinger’s throat, but Keplinger fought with Johnson and no serious injuries resulted.

“I truly apologize for what I have done,” Johnson said to Keplinger’s family.
