FARMINGTON — Despite his claims that he was trying to be a better person, Timothy Hawkins managed to land himself in a lot more trouble Friday both during and after his sentencing hearing.

On Friday, Circuit Court Judge Kenneth W. Pratte sentenced Hawkins, 23, of Mexico, Mo., to 15 years in prison for first-degree assault.

Hawkins’ public defender, Wayne Williams asked the judge to consider probation since Hawkins had recently been placed on probation for charges in Audrain County with a seven-year sentence hanging over him if he violates probation. He suggested that the judge could even run the sentences consecutive with 22 years hanging over his head.

Williams acknowledged that Hawkins had numerous arrests and convictions but he said Hawkins is doing fine so far on probation.
