HOWELL, Mich. — An inmate with a history of violence against corrections officers had a minimum of 20 years added to his sentence by a Livingston County Circuit Court judge.

Joshua John Dewey, 30, was sentenced to an additional 20-40 years by Judge Michael P. Hatty after pleading guilty on counts of assault with intent to maim a corrections officer and assault of a prison employee at the Woodland Correctional Facility off M-36 in Green Oak Township.

The sentences will run concurrently.

At that time, Dewey admitted he threw a plastic chair at a officer and gouged the officer’s eye after being denied permission to attend a January church service.

The officer was permanently disfigured and disabled by the attack, officials said.
