FONTANA, Calif. — An inmate charged with the stabbing death of a California corrections officer has been ruled mentally competent to stand trial.
Prosecutors say Jon Christopher Blaylock killed Chino corrections officer Manuel Gonzalez in January 2005, according to the Sacbee.
The officer had let Blaylock out of his cell in an attempt to quell racial tensions in the prison just before he was stabbed. Some doctors testified that Blaylock believes he’s a member of Dutch royalty and that corrections officers are out to kill him.
Others testified that the inmate is not delusional and simply knows how to manipulate the system. The jury decided that Blaylock is mentally competent and criminal proceedings were reinstated.
