BARTOW — Prosecutors won’t be filing additional charges against Polk murder suspect Casey Weldon Till on allegations that he sent threatening letters to a fellow inmate.

Till continues to face charges that he went on a lethal rampage in August 2008 after a fender bender near Lake Hatchineha and Watkins roads in Northeast Polk.

The 27-year-old Haines City man is accused of injuring two people by stabbing them and killing a third person, Odalis Cespedes, by running her over with a car.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in that case, which is scheduled for trial in October.

However, the State Attorney’s Office decided last week to not file formal charges against Till on allegations that he threatened an inmate over a money dispute.

There wasn’t enough evidence to prove that the threatening letters actually came from Till, said Chip Thullbery, a spokesman with the State Attorney’s Office in Bartow.

An arrest report stated the inmate, Jere Temple, told deputies that Till mistakenly thought Temple had stolen $65 meant for Till to buy snacks and other items from the canteen. Temple told deputies he was concerned because the letters warned that Temple’s family might be hurt.

Under questioning by deputies, Till denied writing the letters or having them written for him, the report states.
