Prosecutors release video of jailed Ga. suspect to refute injury defense

Video shows Dewey Green dancing, horsing around in jail; defense hoped to use head injury to explain that Green wasn’t in control of the vehicle that killed Janice Pitts

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — Prosecutors released a video of a man accused of ramming the vehicle of a woman and then running her over, killing her, in order to refute the defenses’ hope to use a head injury to explain the man wasn’t in control of his own vehicle.

Al.com reports that Dewey Green, 24, was indicted on seven counts in the death of Janice Pitts, 53.

Green is accused of slamming into Pitts’ vehicle three times; when Pitts got out to look at the damage, Green allegedly hit the accelerator, pining Pitts between the two vehicles and killing her. Green then ran over Pitts’ body as he drove away.

“This man was out to kill. He didn’t stop until he got what he was after,” said one of Pitts’ daughters, Nakeeta Davis.

Green’s attorneys said they would show that he had a head injury that caused a seizure when he first struck Pitts’ vehicle, thus claiming he wasn’t in control when his vehicle struck her.

A neuropsychologist testified that he didn’t believe Green had a seizure during the incident.

The video released shows Green and his girlfriend, Valerie Lester, chatting via video conference. Green dances and jumps around during the chats. He also does wheelies in a wheelchair. The video was made two days after Green’s arrest.
