CHESTER — The Chester County inmate who overpowered a police officer, took his gun, tried to shoot him and then fled from a local hospital, resulting in a countywide manhunt and hospital lockdown last summer, will spend the next decade in prison.

Bradley Aaron Bianco, 21, on Monday pleaded guilty to resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, said Chris Taylor, assistant Sixth Circuit Court solicitor. Judge Brooks Goldsmith sentenced him to 10 years behind bars.

Last July, Bianco, who had been in jail since June on domestic violence and probation violating charges, asked for treatment for an undisclosed medical issue. While at the Chester Regional Medical Center, a handcuffed Bianco assaulted a detention center guard and took his gun. Police said Bianco tried to shoot the officer.

The weapon never fired because the gun’s magazine fell out during Bianco’s struggle with the jail guard, Taylor said.
