Teen accused of killing parents charged as adult

NAPLES, Florida — A 14-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting his parents in December has been charged as an adult with manslaughter.

The state attorney’s office in Fort Myers said Wednesday the “appropriate action” is to charge Alexander Crain with two adult counts of manslaughter with a firearm. The office did not explain the charging decision. His surviving family had sought to have him charged a juvenile, which means the penalties would have been less severe if he’s convicted.

Police say Crain’s parents, 40-year-old Thomas Crain and 39-year-old Kelly Crain, were killed in their Naples-area home with a rifle Dec. 9.
