CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A Chattanooga man was charged with three counts of felony drug possession Friday after police found drugs hidden in his groin area at the Hamilton County Jail.
Joseph Gray, 32, was a passenger in a car pulled over in a traffic stop. Police looked up his record and found three active warrants, according to a Hamilton County affidavit.
While Gray was being taken to the jail, he was “moving around a lot” in the back of a police car, the affidavit states. Police said Gray denied carrying anything illegal.
But when Gray got out of the patrol car at the jail, police said they found crack cocaine on the floorboard.
Police found felony amounts of crack cocaine, powder cocaine and marijuana in Gray’s “private area” while inside the jail, according to the affidavit.
Along with the three felony drugs charges, Gray also was charged with possessing contraband in jail and tampering with evidence.
