Twice-deported fugitive arrested in Canada

Man uses five aliases and has been convicted of possession of counterfeit money, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon

TORONTO — Authorities say a fugitive who was deported twice to Jamaica and returned illegally to Canada has been arrested in Toronto.

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews says Wasford Uriah Steer was last deported in 2000. He does not know how or when he returned.

The 39 year old was arrested Monday on other charges. Police then discovered he is wanted by Canadian border authorities.

Toews says Steer uses five aliases and has been convicted of possession of counterfeit money, assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

The official spoke to reporters on Wednesday.
