WAUSAU — A 20-year-old Wausau man accused of putting a Marathon County Jail officer in a coma will stand trial on felony charges of aggravated battery with the intention of causing bodily harm and battery by a prisoner.
Under heavy security, Fredrick Morris waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Marathon County Courthouse. Spectators were subjected to searches, and a metal detector was set up outside the courtroom. More than a dozen law enforcement officers were in the courtroom during the hearing.
The extra security was requested by members of the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department investigative division, Lt. Chad Billeb said Wednesday.
