KING COUNTY, Wash. — A Washington county is moving forward with a plan that would use taxpayer money to facilitate efforts to pay bails for low-income inmates.
The county is planning for $400,000 in funding for the bail reform plan between June 1 and December 31, 2020, KIRO7 reports.
According to county officials, the fund is to help prevent personal and financial instability included in pretrial diversion, facilitate equitable access to justice by providing access to funds for the payment of bail and avert county costs of incarcerating those with low income.
At least one organization is currently paying bills with private funds.
