CHILLIWACK, Canada — The man who slashed the face and neck of a female corrections officer at the Kent Institution in 2012 was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

The Chilliwack Times reports that Kevin Beaulieu targeted the officer because he believed that “hurting a female hurts the guards more collectively.”

Beaulieu approached the officer on June 23, and asked her for help with a document. As she looked at the paper, she slashed her with a razor blade from just under the eye to just under her chin.

The officer was airlifted out of the prison and underwent three hours of surgery.

The entire incident was caught on camera.

Beaulieu is said to have shown no remorse after either committing the act or in court as the details of the event were read aloud. He did not address the court during the proceedings.

He has a significant criminal record including 14 convictions for violent crimes, several of which have taken place in prison.

Beaulieu’s defense attorney entered a guilty plea and cited mental health issues as the reason for the attack. His attorney said “he tells me he is sorry.”
