BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. — An inmate who stirred up trouble by complaining there was hair in his food has been sentenced to eight years behind bars after pleading guilty to putting the hair there himself.

CBS News reports that Ray Wolfe plead guilty to four felonies total, reaching a plea agreement with Summit County prosecutors before a three-day jury was slated to begin to determine how a hair got in Wolfe’s beef stroganoff.

After Wolfe complained of finding hair in his food, investigators pulled surveillance video, monitoring the kitchen staff, the inmates distributing the food and finally of Wolfe receiving his tray.

In what turned out to be a crucial piece of evidence, investigators said surveillance video proved Wolfe tampered with his own food.

The incident report for the case describes Wolfe seen in a reflection in windows, standing at a water fountain for eight seconds. He can be seen making small movements with his arms and hands, leading investigators to believe that Wolfe had placed the hair in his food himself.

Wolfe avoided a 24-year sentence, which included three felonies for making up the story about the hair in his food. Instead he received the 8-year sentence, combining this case and several unrelated cases, which included assault on his ex-girlfriend and other crimes committed while in jail.
