BERLIN, Germany — Two men who used blankets to scale razor-wire fences weren’t noticed missing for three hours.
According to The Local, the men sawed through prison bars and officials reported that security was lax due to construction.
The first alarm raised around 3 a.m. was believed to be false due to the construction, but a second alarm around 5 a.m. caused officers to notice two bed sheets hanging from the first floor.
Another inmate, in an unrelated incident, was found hanging in his cell; shortly after, a riot broke out that allowed a third inmate to attempt escape, but was stopped by COs.
All incidents are considered unrelated and “coincidental.” It’s been ruled out that escapees had help from the inside, but at least one inmate had a cell phone.
The prison’s seven guard towers have not been occupied for years.
