LOVELOCK, Nev. – A fight between two inmates at the Lovelock Correctional Center ended with a shooting that left three inmates injured.

The inmates ignored officer’s commands to cease fighting around 8 a.m. Tuesday, causing officers to escalate to fire a blank “popper” round before “skipping” three live rounds into the fighting inmates, the Review Journal reports.

A third popper round was fired before more jail staff responded and were able to separate the fighting inmates. The two inmates who were fighting and a third struck by two pellets were treated for their injuries by prison medical staff. All were treated onsite.

A lockdown ensued, and was later lifted around 11:30 a.m.
