ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Two months after an explosion killed two and injured hundreds, another gas leak was found at the Escambia County Jail. This time, it was at the nearby Main Jail facility.
PNJ reports that gas has since been restored to the facility and the problem resolved, but on Monday a gas valve in the building’s boiler system was found to be leaking. Though it was unclear how long the valve had been leaking for, no inmates or staff were endangered.
Since the April explosion, the county has been housing displaced inmates at the main jail, as well as at other correctional facilities in Escambia and neighboring counties.
Inmates are complaining that the smell of the gas was making them sick.
