SALT LAKE CITY – House Bill 348 seeks to reduce Utah’s prison population by changing some drug crimes from felonies to misdemeanors.

Utah currently has around 7,000 people behind bars, and the current system doesn’t differentiate between career criminals and people who have offended because of a drug addiction, according to Good 4 Utah.

The bill was unanimously approved by the House Law Enforcement Committee and will now go for a vote from the full House.
