TOPEKA, Kan. — Inmates from the Topeka Correctional Facility took part in a fundraiser to raise money for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
Inmate Konnie Kellogg, serving time for drug charges, came up with the idea while running the facility’s asphalt track, according to CJOnline.com.
“I thought, ‘Maybe we could have a race and raise some money for bombing victims and their family members,’” Kellogg said.
Prison officials gave her the green light and Kellogg set the event to take place on the evening of June 12. About 50 women took part in the run, while others who didn’t participate still donated cash or purchased specially designed shirts.
In the end, the effort raised $1,500, CJOnline stated.
