NEW YORK — A New York correction officer is being remembered for his steady presence, professionalism and devotion to his family after he died in a motorcycle crash while on his way to work.

Correction Officer Justin Brown, 33, died following a motorcycle crash on April 13 while traveling to work at Fishkill Correctional Facility, according to Nysdocs.org.

Colleagues described Brown as a steady and dependable presence inside the facility’s walls. In a statement shared by NYSDOCCS, officials said Brown served “with quiet strength, integrity and professionalism,” earning the respect of those he worked alongside each day.

“He was, by all accounts, the epitome of what a correction officer should be,” NYDOCCS said.

Remembered as a dedicated officer, husband and father

Beyond his role in corrections, Brown was remembered as a devoted husband and father.

A GoFundMe organized by his wife, Cecily Brown, describes him as “a truly honorable, sincere and good man” and “the foundation upon which our family was built.” The couple had been together for 20 years and share a 7-year-old son, Gabriel.

“To our 7-year-old son, Gabriel, he was a hero, a protector and a guiding light,” Cecily wrote.

Born in Yonkers, Brown later built his life in Gardiner, New York, where his loss is being felt across the community. Colleagues and loved ones said he was known for his work ethic and willingness to take on extra hours to support his family.

“He earned the respect of his colleagues not only for his work ethic but especially for his character,” his wife wrote, adding that he was “someone you could count on” whose presence brought reassurance to those around him.
