ALBANY, NY — On Thursday the DOC honored two of their own for saving four Attica residents from a house fire last year.
The Daily News reports that correction officers Erwin Emminger and Bradley Walters were awarded Medals of Merit during a ceremony in Albany.
In September of 2013, Emminger was driving to work when he noticed a house fire. He stopped and immediately entered the building, alerting its four residents to the danger and escorting them out of the building.
Emminger then re-entered the building and attempted to put the fire out himself, and sustained injuries to his arm.
Walters had been driving behind Emminger and stopped to call 911. He then took two of the residents, both children, and put them in his truck for safety.
Both COs also evacuated three neighboring families.
