ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County corrections officer was found dead in a secure employee parking lot at the jail shortly after 2:30 p.m. Thursday, officials said.

Officer Pamela Mobley, 59, had been with the corrections department since 2002, jail spokeswoman Carrie Proudfit said.

She was scheduled for a shift Thursday morning, but did not arrive, Proudfit said.

“She did not call nor show for her shift this morning, which is uncharacteristic of her,” Proudfit said.

Orange County deputies went to Mobley’s home for a well-being check, but did not find her there, Proudfit said.

Mobley was found on the south side of the property early Thursday afternoon.

“Emergency efforts by corrections personnel were made in an attempt to revive her,” Proudfit said. “These attempts by Orange County Corrections personnel, in addition to first responders, were sadly unsuccessful.”

Mobley leaves two sons, Proudfit said.

“Her colleagues have described her fondly today as someone who always had a smile on her face,” she said.

Lourdes Clayton, an Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said the death did not appear to be suspicious and no foul play is suspected. An autopsy will be conducted to determine Mobley’s official cause of death.

“We ask that you please keep the officer’s family, as well as her Orange County Corrections family in the community’s thoughts and prayers right now,” Proudfit said.
