MAITE — A 16-year veteran of the Guam Department of Corrections was killed this morning in a serious motorcycle accident in Maite.
Guam Pacific Daily News reports that Corrections Officer Frank Juarez Garcia III was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Naval Hospital.
It’s unclear if he was on his way to work or not.
Garcia has been assigned to the Department of Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense since 2012.
DOC Deputy Director Carla Borja said this is a “sad day for the department,” saying Garcia was a good friend and “very inspirational” to staff and administration at the DOC.
She extended condolences to Garcia’s family and said they are awaiting word about services for the man.
