BAYBORO, N.C. — “New Leash on Life” is celebrating its 10th anniversary at the Pamlico Correctional Institute in North Carolina by showing off some of the skills they’ve taught the dogs.
Central North Carolina reports that 89 dogs have been adopted from the facility since the program started ten years ago.
“Watching them get adopted, watching them come in here … messed up and skinny, and been abused and watching the transformation into a healthy dog over the eight-week cycle. And watching them do everything you trained them to do and they’re happy to do it,” said Michael McGaha, an inmate dog trainer.
“You literally see a dog come in with glazed over eyes and leave with life in their eyes. It’s amazing.”
