CORALVILLE, IA — Two inmates at a medium-security prison in Coralville will stand trial together on charges of attempted murder for the stabbing of a fellow prisoner.
The trial for 21-year-old Michael Swanson and 33-year-old Michael Ivester has been set for Sept. 15.
Authorities say Ivester held down another inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville on Nov. 13 while Swanson slashed at the inmate’s neck. The victim required stiches for 15 cuts.
Swanson was 17 when he killed 47-year-old Vicky Bowman-Hall while she worked at a convenience store in Algona in 2010 and 61-year-old Sheila Myers on the same night while she worked at a convenience store in Humboldt.
Ivester is serving time for an out-of-state conviction.
