LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. — A juvenile probation officer who was vacationing and visiting family in Mexico was killed in a car crash this week.
Megan Alcala is being remembered by friends and coworkers as a kind, compassionate woman who empathized with the youths she supervised, Livingston Daily reports.
A U.S. State Department official confirmed that Alcala died in Merida, the largest city on the Yucatan Peninsula.
She was involved in a rollover crash. Alcala was killed, while her husband sustained injuries. He is currently hospitalized. The couple’s 15-year-old son, who was vacationing with them, is not believed to have been in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
