AUGUSTA, Maine — Kennebec County jail guards foiled a scheme to smuggle heroin into the lockup on a string of dental floss dropped from a jail window.
The scheme was observed by a tipster and recorded by jail cameras before officials broke it up in July. One man admitted earlier this week he furnished contraband to his friends in jail. A camera also recorded a woman in the jail parking lot, whose cell phone was used to talk to an inmate.
Dental floss weighted with a pencil was dropped from a window and the inmate signaled for his accomplices to attach two and a half grams of heroin to it.
Sheriff Randall Liberty says officials have seized all the dental floss in the jailhouse.
