Neb. correctional officer hospitalized after assault

LINCOLN, Neb. — A correctional officer with the Nebraska State Penitentiary has undergone surgery for broken facial bones after being assaulted by an inmate.
The Argus Leader reports that the attack occurred Monday after the officer ordered the inmate to stand for a search.
The inmate refused to comply, and hit the officer, knocking him to the ground. He then struck the officer several times.
Other officers responding to the incident restrained the inmate and the assaulted officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The attack is under investigation.
