MUSKEGON, Mich. — Muskegon County Jail officials plan to move inmates and all into a new facility soon.
Sheriff Dean Roesler tells The Muskegon Chronicle that he hopes to start moving inmates to the new jail in mid- to late-August. He says officials are planning the details of the transition from a 370-bed facility next door to a modern jail with 544 beds in downtown Muskegon.
Roesler says that once the work is completed he wants 2 to 3 weeks for staff to train in the jail before making the move.
He says inmates then will be moved over in small groups for security reasons over a week or week and a half.
