BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A bank robber’s crime spree was cut short when he was caught and held by another bank customer – an off-duty corrections officer.
NJ.com reports that Kenneth Grant walked into a bank and passed a teller a note reading “I have a gun.” The teller handed over $1,300 and then activated an alarm. Grant walked out of the bank.
Bank staff alerted Jerry Head, an off-duty corrections officer and bank customer, though it is not clear if Head was present at the bank during the time of the robbery.
Head stopped Grant just north of the bank and physically held him until police arrived; he was wearing a badge and his service weapon and convinced Grant that he was a police officer. When he told Grant to get on the ground, Grant complied.
Grant has been charged with robbery, and it was found that he had no weapon on him.
