HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio — Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday, charged with bringing marijuana to the jail to sell to inmates.
Michael Stephens, 26, is charged with complicity to bring drugs into a corrections facility.
Stephens was in court today and had his case continued until Sept. 5 so he can hire an attorney.
Stephens is a corrections officer, meaning he works at the jail, who was hired in May 2004.
After rumors started filtering in to the sheriff’s office, the Regional Narcotics Unit began investigating, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Barnett said today.
Barnett said Stephens, after his arrest, admitted to bring small amounts of marijuana into the jail on several occasions. Stephens has been suspended without pay while the case is pending.
RENU is a combined drug unit comprised of Sheriff’s deputies and Cincinnati police.
