CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — A scam in the Calhoun County area is targeting recently released inmates and their families, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
WWMT reports that the scam involves a call that looks like it’s coming from authorities, tells families that a mistake was made and that bond money is owed.
The caller threatens to have the recently released inmate arrested if the money is not wired.
Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton says staff members will never suggest that money be wired to a location other than the sheriff’s office, or ask for credit card information over the phone.
